The Supreme Court ruled Wednesday, November 13, that it is unconstitutional to demolish a person’s house without following due process of law merely because they are allegedly involved in a crime while hearing petitions against the bulldozing of homes and private properties of accused persons by states. "The executive can't declare a person guilty. If based only on allegation, it demolishes his house, it would strike at basic principle of Rule of Law. Executive can't become a judge and decide to demolish an accused's property," a bench of justices BR Gavai and KV Vishwanathan said.
