In a recent social media post, the Kerala Congress drew a correlation between India’s cricket victories and the ruling government. The party pointed out that India’s World Cup wins in 1983 and 2011 coincided with the Congress party being in power. This comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday claimed that the Congress party intends to give minorities a preference in sports on the basis of religion; it will decide who stays in the cricket team and who won't. The post, shared on May 9, asked voters to recall the cricket triumphs and noted that the Congress government took pride in these victories but did not brand them as their own. The post read: “We didn’t select the team, the selection committee consisting of world-class players did. We never branded it as our governments’ victory, but the team’s and people of India’s!” The Kerala Congress also took a dig at the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), led by PM Modi, stating that no cricket tournament was won by the country during BJP’s governance. They claimed that the “BJP tried to mix cricket and politics and insulted the game.” Lok Sabha Elections 2024: PM Narendra Modi’s Sharp Retort to ‘Comparison With Aurangzeb’ Jibe, Dares ‘Nakli Sena’ in Their Backyard (Watch Video).
