In a tragic incident at the RAU IAS Study Centre, three students lost their lives due to flooding in an unapproved basement library. The coaching centre had permission from the Delhi Fire Department and the Municipal Corporation to use the basement strictly for parking or storage, yet it was illegally operated as a library. This violation came to light after three students died in the flooded basement of Rau's IAS Study Circle in Old Rajinder Nagar on Saturday, July 27. The basement was inundated following heavy rain in the national capital. A UPSC aspirant claimed that the tragedy could have been averted if the government had acted on his complaint filed on June 26 via the Public Grievance Portal. He alleged that many basement libraries in Rajinder Nagar operate without proper NOC from the Fire Department and that the narrow staircases make it difficult for students to evacuate safely. He also accused the MCD of accepting bribes for No Objection Certificates without ensuring compliance with safety regulations. RAU IAS Study Centre Tragedy: 3 Civil Services Aspirants Die as Basement of Coaching Centre Flooded in Delhi's Old Rajinder Nagar; BJP Calls It Criminal Negligence.
