In a shocking revelation, the Food Safety Department of Telangana conducted inspections in the Madhapur area of Hyderabad and uncovered several violations at an outlet of the popular Bengaluru-based brand, The Rameshwaram Cafe. The cafe, known for its South Indian cuisine, was found to be in breach of food safety regulations including expired food items, improperly labelled ingredients, improper wasted disposal and missing medical fitness certificate. The officials discovered 100 kilograms of urad dal that had reportedly expired in March 2024. Additionally, 10 kilograms of expired curds and 8 liters of expired milk were found in the cafe's kitchen. 300 kilograms of unlabelled jaggery worth Rs 30,000 was also confiscated. The cafe's food handlers were unable to present their Medical Fitness Certificates during the inspection. The restaurant's dustbins were not covered properly with lids, violating hygiene standards. The Rameshwaram Cafe, with multiple outlets in Bengaluru, has been a favorite among locals and tourists alike. It issued a statement after the inspection and said that it has ordered an internal inquiry to verify the facts and take stock of each outlet. It also denied reports that cockroaches were found at the outlet in Hyderabad.
