Gandhi noted that trackmen walk 8 to 10 kilometers daily, carrying 35 kg of equipment, yet face limited opportunities for promotion and inadequate safety measures. He highlighted the alarming statistic that around 550 trackmen die each year in work-related accidents due to insufficient safety arrangements.
