Khera has alleged disrespect against women in the state's party unit and had pledged to expose those who were suffering from a "male chauvinistic mentality" within the party. Khera stated she was leaving her position as a member of Congress in a tweet, expressing "great pain" in her resignation. “Today, with great pain, I am renouncing the primary membership of the party and resigning from my post. Yes I am a girl and I can fight, and that is what I am doing now. I will continue to fight for justice for myself and my countrymen”, she wrote in a recent tweet announcing her resignation.
