Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, while reading out his judgement in the same-sex marriage case on October 17, said that queerness or homosexuality is not an urban concept. CJI DY Chandrachud further said it is not correct that homosexual people exist only in urban parts of the country. "Homosexuality or queerness is not an urban concept or restricted to the upper classes of the society. It is not an English speaking man with a white collar man who can claim to be queer but equally a woman working in an agricultural job in a village," he remarked.
