The Congress on Wednesday filed a Privilege Motion against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for supporting BJP MP Anurag Thakur's controversial 'caste' remarks about Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi. Congress MP Charanjit Singh Channi submitted the complaint to the Lok Sabha Secretary General. The controversy erupted after PM Modi shared a video of Thakur's speech, calling it a "must hear" and praising it as a mix of facts and humor that exposed the politics of the INDIA Bloc. Channi's complaint noted that Thakur's speech contained "many objectionable remarks" which were later expunged by Lok Sabha chairperson Om Birla. Congress' Jairam Ramesh accused the Prime Minister of encouraging a "serious breach of Parliamentary privilege" and described Thakur's speech as "highly abusive and unconstitutional." During his address, Thakur insinuated about Gandhi's caste without naming him, prompting Gandhi to assert that the Opposition would pass the caste census bill in Parliament. ‘Someone Who Doesn’t Know About Caste…’: Anurag Thakur’s Caste Jibe Sparks Heated Exchange With Rahul Gandhi in Lok Sabha (Watch Video).
