Political strategist Prashant Kishor, known for managing Narendra Modi’s 2014 campaign, has predicted a BJP victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He anticipates the party winning around 303 seats, suggesting no widespread anger against the Prime Minister. Kishor has forecasted significant policy changes in Modi’s potential third term. These include the possibility of petroleum being placed under the Goods and Services Tax (GST), which could impose substantial restrictions on the financial autonomy of states. Currently, states rely on three major sources of revenue: petroleum, liquor, and land. “I wouldn’t be surprised if petroleum was brought under GST’s ambit,” Kishor stated, indicating a potential shift in fiscal policy. Furthermore, Kishor predicted that India would adopt a more assertive stance in handling geopolitical issues. Kishor further said that the BJP's weakness was their "over-dependence" on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and he said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi should take a break if the party fails to win the Lok Sabha polls. Rahul Gandhi Should Step Aside if Congress Does Not Get Desired Results in Lok Sabha Elections, Says Prashant Kishor.
