Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a historic visit to Ukraine on Friday, August 23, and held bilateral talks with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Following the meeting, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy addressed the media, expressing his gratitude that Prime Minister Modi had chosen to visit the war-torn country. Zelenskyy also noted that PM Modi appeared more committed to peace talks regarding the Russia-Ukraine war than Vladimir Putin himself. 'I am happy that PM Modi came to visit us, and I believe this is very important. This is the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine', Zelenskyy said. While speaking about PM Modi's visit to Russia last month, Zelenskyy clarified that his condemnation was not aimed at PM Modi's visit to Moscow but rather at the fact that Putin launched attacks on the children in Kyiv during the Indian Prime Minister's visit to Russia. 'Putin is a killer, Russia attacked our children during PM Narendra Modi's visit to Moscow, which shows Vladimir Putin's lack of respect for the Indian PM', told the Ukrainian President. Zelenskyy had criticized PM Modi’s visit to Moscow on July 8, which coincided with deadly Russian strikes, including one on Kyiv's largest children's hospital. PM Modi on Russia-Ukraine Conflict: ‘India Was Never Neutral, Always Took Side of Peace in Ongoing War’, PM Narendra Modi Tells Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (Watch Video).
