Eight cooling towers of the Kothagudem Thermal Power Station (KTPS) (O&M) complex in Palvancha, in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district of Telangana were demolished through controlled implosion technique on Monday, August 5. The implosions were conducted following proper safety precautions under the expertise of Rajasthan-based company. These towers, around 102-115-meter high, belonged to the closed units of the KTPS complex. Four of these eight towers were constructed between 1996-1967, and the rest between 1974-1978. These towers were phased out a few years ago as they outlived their serving capacity. The towers can be seen imploding on themselves in the dramatic videos that have surfaced.
