Padma Shri Award Winner Darshanam Mogulaiah, also known as Kinnera Mogulaiah, who was honoured with the prestigious award in 2022, now works as a daily wager at a construction site in Hyderabad. The 73-year-old artist, who reinvented the rare musical instrument "Kinnera", faced financial hardships after spending the post-award grant of Rs 1 crore from the Telangana government on family expenses. Mogulaiah, a father of nine children, expressed his struggles, citing medical expenses for his son's medical condition and the discontinuation of a Rs 10,000 monthly honorarium. Despite efforts to seek help from government officials and public representatives, including meetings with the chief minister and deputy CM, Mogulaiah's allotment of a 600-square-yard plot remains pending, highlighting bureaucratic hurdles.
