Tamil Nadu Transport Minister S S Sivasankar stirred controversy on Friday by declaring there is no archaeological or historical evidence to support the existence of Lord Ram. Speaking at an event at the Sri Brihadeeswara Temple in Gangaikondacholapuram, Sivasankar compared the evidence for King Rajendra Chola with the lack of similar evidence for Lord Ram. "We honour Rajendra Chola with tangible evidence such as inscriptions, temples, and the lake he constructed. However, there is no comparable evidence to trace the historical existence of Lord Ram," Sivasankar stated. Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai responded sharply, questioning DMK's "sudden obsession with Lord Ram." In a post on X, Annamalai criticised Sivasankar's remarks and pointed out the DMK's conflicting statements about Ram. He also referenced DMK’s previous opposition to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's installation of the Chola Dynasty Sengol in the new Parliament Complex. Annamalai suggested that DMK ministers should debate to reach a consensus on their stance regarding Lord Ram's existence and significance.
