A massive fire erupted in a forest area near Nainital's High Court Colony, Uttarakhand, on Friday, April 26. Within the last 24 hours, 31 new incidents of forest fires were reported across the state, destroying 33.34 hectares of forest land. The situation prompted the Forest Department to enlist the support of the Indian Air Force and Indian Army. An IAF Mi-17 helicopter was deployed, drawing water from Bhimtal Lake in Nainital in an effort to contain the blaze that had been raging for over 36 hours, consuming vast hectares of forest.
