A 30-year-old man named Salman Salim Thakur has been arrested for vandalising the Muthyalamma Temple in Secunderabad, Telangana, on October 14. As per reports, Thakur, a computer engineering graduate, was reportedly radicalized through online content from Zakir Naik and other hardline Islamists. Thakur, a resident of Mumbra, Maharashtra, has a history of such incidents, including entering a Ganesh pandal with footwear and attacking locals in Mumbai in 2022. He was also previously arrested for damaging a Lord Shankar idol in Mira-Bhayandar.
