The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued an advisory on Tuesday, urging residents to boil and filter water before consumption due to rising turbidity levels in the city’s water supply. Complaints regarding turbid water have been reported in certain areas of the eastern suburbs and island city. The increase in turbidity is attributed to continuous rainfall in the catchment area of the Bhatsa reservoir over the past three to four days. The BMC’s Hydraulic Engineering Department is implementing necessary measures at the water treatment plant to lower turbidity levels and is ensuring adequate chlorine treatment for water safety. Mumbai’s water supply comes from seven lakes, including the Bhatsa reservoir.
