Four out of seven lakes that supply water to Mumbai are currently overflowing following heavy rainfall this month. Mumbai receives water from seven lakes - Tulsi, Vihar, Bhatsa, Modak Sagar, Tansa, Upper Vaitarna and Middle Vaitarna. Of them, Vihar and Modak Sagar lakes started overflowing on Thursday, July 25. Tansa lake started overflowing on July 24, prompting authorities to open three gates of the Tansa dam. Earlier on July 20, Tulsi lake had overflowed. Due to heavy rain in the past 24 hours, water levels in the seven lakes surged by little over 8 percent from 58.13 percent on July 24 to 66.77 percent on July 25.
