The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday demolished a four-decade-old Kali temple to ease traffic congestion on the road leading to the upcoming Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project. The temple, located in Mumbai’s western suburbs, had been identified as a major cause of bottlenecks, hindering progress on the long-awaited road development. Given the sensitive nature of demolishing a religious structure, the BMC ensured that the operation was conducted peacefully, with no resistance or incidents reported. Local authorities coordinated with community leaders to avoid tensions. The GMLR project will connect Western and Eastern Express Highways via twin tunnels under Sanjay Gandhi National Park.
