The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange alert for Maharashtra, warning of intense rainfall. Mumbai, already experiencing continuous showers, is expected to see more heavy downpours in the next two days. A Yellow alert, forecasting moderate to heavy rain and very heavy rainfall in isolated areas, has been issued specifically for Mumbai. Additionally, Orange alerts have been issued for Pune, Thane, Palghar, and Ratnagiri districts. In response, Pune Collector Suhas Diwase has ordered the closure of schools in Pune city and surrounding areas, including Pimpri Chinchwad, Bhor, Velhe, Maval, Mulshi, and Khadakwasla. Palghar and Raigad have also shut down all schools with colleges also shut in Palghar. Exams scheduled for today in these districts have been postponed. The Thane district administration declared a holiday for schools and junior colleges. Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation announced a school holiday for students in classes 1 to 12 after heavy rainfall early Thursday. School authorities are ensuring students return home safely.
