An elderly man was allegedly assaulted by co-passengers on an express train near Igatpuri in Maharashtra's Nashik district, after being suspected of carrying beef. The victim, Haji Ashraf Munyar, from Jalgaon district, was travelling to his daughter’s home in Kalyan when the attack occurred earlier this week. A video of the incident, which surfaced on social media, shows a group of about a dozen people verbally abusing and physically attacking Munyar inside the train. The viral video has sparked widespread outrage and prompted an investigation by the Government Railway Police (GRP). Authorities have identified some of the individuals involved in the attack, but no arrests or charges have been made yet. The GRP confirmed they are probing the incident and have taken cognisance of the viral video. Munyar, who survived the assault, has dismissed rumours of his death by suicide that emerged online following the incident.
