Ganesh Chaturthi, the festival celebrating the birth of Lord Ganesha, is one of India's most cherished and widely observed festivals, especially in Maharashtra. The Anant Chaturdashi, the day when all the Ganesha idols are immersed in water bodies, takes place on September 28. Coincidently, Eid-e-Milad also falls on the same day, i.e. Friday. Considering this, the government of Maharashtra has decided to declare Friday, September 29, as a public holiday. "On the occasion of Anant Chaturdashi, the festival of Ganesh Visarjan and Eid-e-Milad will be held on the same day i.e. tomorrow Thursday (September 28) and the state government has decided to declare a public holiday on Friday 29th to enable the police administration to properly manage the crowd and processions," Maharashtra CMO said.
