Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has expressed deep shock and outrage over the rape and murder of a junior doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Breaking his silence on the Thursday night incident, Gandhi criticised the handling of the case, raising concerns about the safety of medical professionals and women across the country. "The entire country is shocked by the gruesome incident," Gandhi stated, noting the growing insecurity among doctors and women. He questioned the effectiveness of safety measures in educational and medical institutions and condemned alleged attempts to protect the accused, which he said raises "serious questions on the hospital and local administration." Gandhi also highlighted the failure of stringent laws, such as those enacted after the Nirbhaya case, to prevent such crimes. He called for a national dialogue and concrete steps to combat the rising violence against women, urging all parties and societal sections to take the issue seriously. The victim’s body, bearing severe injuries, was discovered on Friday in the hospital's seminar hall. The case, now under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), has sparked widespread protests by doctors and medical students. RG Kar Doctor Rape-Murder Case: CBI Team in Kolkata To Investigate Sexual Assault and Killing of Female Trainee Doctor Following Calcutta High Court Order (Watch Video).
