In response to the brutal crime at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata and the violence against protesting students, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has declared a nationwide withdrawal of services by doctors of modern medicine. The strike will begin at 6 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, and last until 6 a.m. on Sunday, August 18. While essential services and casualty units will remain operational, routine outpatient departments (OPDs) and elective surgeries will not be conducted. The IMA emphasised that the strike will impact all sectors where modern medicine doctors provide services and called for national sympathy and support for their cause.
