In response to the brutal crime at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata and the violence against protesting students, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has declared a nationwide withdrawal of services by doctors of modern medicine. The strike will begin at 6 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, and last until 6 a.m. on Sunday, August 18. While essential services and casualty units will remain operational, routine outpatient departments (OPDs) and elective surgeries will not be conducted.
