Kansal, a 28-year-old scientist suffering from muscular dystrophy, has approached the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) after the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) declined to allocate him any service despite his success in the Civil Services Examination on four occasions. The DoPT cited his inability to meet the physical standards required for the service. Kansal, who is currently employed with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), has been wheelchair-bound since the age of 12. Demonstrating remarkable resilience, he taught himself to write after his muscles weakened.
