According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), August this year was the hottest and driest on record in India, dating back over a century. The World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) reported in August that the month of July 2023 was the warmest in more than 1,20,000 years. The average mean and maximum temperatures in August of this year were the highest on record since 1901, according to an AFP report citing the IMD.
