A second-year M.Sc. student at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) was found dead in his hostel room last night in an apparent suicide. The student, identified as Kumar Yash, hailing from Deoghar, Jharkhand, was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan. Efforts to access the room were initiated when the door was found locked from the inside. Concerned friends and IIT staff eventually broke the windows to enter. The body has since been transferred to the mortuary, and the deceased's family has been notified of the tragedy. Authorities from the mobile crime team have conducted an inspection of the hostel room. While no suicide note was located, preliminary findings indicate that the student had been undergoing psychiatric treatment, as noted in his medical records.
