Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, who is set to leave office on November 10, recently spoke about whether the Supreme Court stands true to the "bail is the rule, jail an exception" principle. Justice DY Chandrachud said that he takes primacy of liberty and tries to grant bail to everyone in accordance with the law. "Speaking for myself, I have always granted bail from A to Z. From Arnab to Zubair. That's my philosophy," he added. His response came to questions asked by journalists at a discussion organised by The Indian Expres. He also said that several parameters have to be taken into consideration to grant bail.
