In a daring operation in Telangana, an eight-foot Indian rock python was reportedly saved from the crust gate of the Osmansagar Reservoir in Hyderabad. The rescue operation occurred on Sunday afternoon, October 20, after the giant snake, weighing nearly 20 kilograms, was spotted by HMWSSB staff. Soon after spotting the python, the HMWSSB staff alerted the Friends of Snakes Society (FOS), a city-based snake rescue organization, who rushed to the spot. A journalist who shared the news on X (formerly Twitter) said that the snake was allegedly found entangled at the crust gate of Osmansagar Reservoir, thus posing a significant challenge in rescue due to its size and precarious location. A video of the rescue operation shows FOS member Dakarapu Vara Prasad descending to the gate of the dam with the help of a rope and trying to rescue the snake, which is wrapping itself around his hand. As Prasad was unable to climb back, other members of FOS pulled him up and managed to rescue the snake successfully. After the rescue, the Indian Rock Python was handed over to the Nehru Zoo authorities for further care and eventual release into the wild. Frustrated by Government Officials’ Inaction, Family Releases Snake in GHMC Office in Hyderabad (Watch Video).
