The Karnataka High Court recently quashed a criminal case registered under Section 498-A of the Indian Penal Code by a woman against her husband's lover. The single-judge bench of Justice M Nagaprasanna passed the order while allowing the petition filed by the woman and her mother, who were arrayed as accused in the case registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961. As per a report by Live Law, accused no 1 and the complainant are husband and wife. The couple got married on February 7, 2022. It was stated before the court that the relationship between the accused and the complainant floundered, and the impugned crime came to be registered against Respondent Nos.1 to 3 and 5 to 8, who were all members of the family or the mother-in-law or father-in-law of the complainant.
