According to a recent observation by the Chhattisgarh High Court, people prefer live-in relationships over marriages because they offer a quick way out when things don't work out between couples. A division bench consisting of Justices Goutam Bhaduri and Sanjay S. Agrawal stated that a live-in relationship can never offer, stated that a live-in relationship will never provide the stability, advancement, and social recognition to an individual that the institution of marriage can. The court made the observations while hearing a man's habeas corpus petition against a lower court ruling that had refused him custody of his child born in a live-in relationship with a woman.
