The Madras High Court recently observed that idols of Lord Ganesh containing plaster of Paris can't be Immersed; however, they can be sold. The high court made the observation while trying to strike a balance between the right to carry on trade and the need to protect the environment. Justice GR Swaminathan of Madurai bench came to the relief of an artisan from Rajasthan who has been engaged in making Vinayaka idols.
