The Chhattisgarh High Court recently said that in a matrimonial house, a wife cannot be treated as a hired chattel or a bonded labour to stay under the conditions imposed by the husband. The high court also stated that if the husband expects his wife to stay at a place other than his company without any sufficient cause, and if the wife resists his demand, it would not be cruelty by the wife. The Chattisgarh High Court bench of Justice Goutam Bhaduri and Justice Deepak Kumar Tiwari made these observations while saying that it is a natural and rightful demand of the wife from her husband to keep her with him.
