The Punjab and Haryana High Court recently said that a presumption against working women that they may be leading an adulterous life outside the home would tarnish the image of the entire female community. "Merely because women are moving out of the home for work and travelling with male colleagues, it cannot be presumed that all such women are leading an adulterous life, the court said. The state's top court also said that one cannot lose sight of the fact that in the present modern-day times, women are engaged in every field, and they are not only working in offices but also doing business independently and are well-placed in many offices, institutions and companies. The court observed while hearing a divorce petition and stated that cogent proof is a must for divorce. ‘Polygamy Is Not Permitted Under the Hindu Marriage Act’: Punjab and Haryana High Court Rejects Anticipatory Bail Plea of Cop Accused of Rape by Live-In Partner.
