The Calcutta High Court's Jalpaiguri bench recently ruled that a husband and wife's regular arguments would not fall under the definition of cruelty as it is used in Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). As a result, Justice Sugato Majumdar, a single judge, set aside the man's conviction under Section 498A of the IPC for abusing his wife both mentally and physically.
