Acquitting a suspect in a 2009 case, the Telangana High Court recently ruled that just saying "go and die" does not constitute the act of abetment of suicide. According to a Bench of Justices K Lakshman and K Sujana, the statement "go and die" does not match the components of 'instigation' under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code. Observing that the phrase 'instigate' suggests exhortation to do something terrible, the Court stated that remarks made in a heated argument on the spur of the moment cannot be interpreted as being said with sincerity.
