The Government Railway Police (GRP) in Haridwar arrested Ashok Kumar, a private labourer, on Wednesday for allegedly setting off a signal detonator on the railway tracks near Motichur Railway Station. Kumar, contracted for track maintenance, reportedly found the detonator near a railway cave and, out of curiosity, placed it on the tracks to hear its loud sound. The incident, reported to the Moradabad Control Room on October 27, prompted an inspection by GRP Deputy Superintendent Swapnil Moyal and his team. Surveillance footage identified Kumar as the suspect. Although the detonation caused no harm, Kumar confessed during questioning, acknowledging he knew it was a signaling device. A case under Section 288 of the IPC has been registered, and Kumar has been sent to jail. Train Derailment Attempt in Uttar Pradesh?
