On Saturday, June 22, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council announced several decisions concerning taxation, ITC claims, and demand notices. The Council, presided over by Nirmala Sitharaman, announced a uniform 12% GST rate on all solar cookers, regardless of whether they have a single or dual energy source. During a press conference to announce the decisions taken at the council meeting, the FM stated that services provided by Indian Railways, such as platform tickets, facilities of retiring rooms, waiting rooms, and cloakroom services, are also exempted from GST. "Furthermore, intra-railway supplies are being exempted. Additionally, hostels providing accommodation for students outside educational institutions are also exempted," the FM added. "The council has also recommended exempting accommodation services with a value of supply up to Rs 20,000 per person per month," she said.
