During the Defence Investiture Ceremony (Phase-1) held at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi on Friday, July 5, President Droupadi Murmu honoured 36 personnel from various security forces with Gallantry Awards. Among them, 26 Kirti Chakra awards were bestowed posthumously, including one to Captain Anshuman Singh of the Army Medical Corps, 26th Battalion The Punjab Regiment. Captain Singh's widow, Smriti, visibly moved and accepted the award on his behalf from President Murmu. Speaking to the media, she shared their love story, recalling how they met in college and maintained a long-distance relationship for eight years before marrying. Captain Singh's dedication to his military service was evident with his deployment to Siachen just two months after their wedding. Reflecting tearfully, Smriti recalled his dedication, quoting him saying, "I would die with the brass on my chest, not an ordinary death." She tearfully recalled their last conversation before the tragic incident on July 19, where she received the heartbreaking news of his demise. Gallantry Awards 2024: President Droupadi Murmu Confers Awards to 6 CRPF Personnel, Including 4 Posthumously, During Defence Investiture Ceremony (Watch Video).
