The Mumbai District Election Officer issued a statement refuting allegations that a One-Time Password (OTP) was used to unlock Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) during the recent Lok Sabha election results. This follows a controversy involving Mangesh Pandilkar, the brother-in-law of newly elected Mumbai North West MP Ravindra Waikar. Pandilkar allegedly used a mobile phone inside the Goregaon counting center on June 4, the day election results were announced. According to police sources, the phone was purportedly used to generate an OTP to unlock an EVM. In response, the District Election Officer clarified, "There is no OTP on mobile for unlocking EVM as it is non-programmable and it has no wireless communication capabilities. EVMs are stand-alone devices without any wired or wireless connectivity with units outside the EVM system. Advanced technical features and robust administrative safeguards are in place to rule out any possibility of manipulation." Additionally, the Returning Officer announced plans to take action against ‘Mid-Day’ for allegedly spreading rumours about the incident. Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Waikar's Brother-in-Law Had Mobile Phone That Unlocks EVMs at Counting Centre, Priyanka Chaturvedi Alleges 'Fraud at Highest Level'.
