By sending a flash message to many cellphones today, India tested its emergency alert system. Users' phones beeped loudly and flashed "emergency alert: severe" at the same time. At 12:19 pm today, the notification appeared on all Android smartphones. According to the Cell Broadcasting System by Department of Telecommunication, such tests will occasionally be conducted in various locations to evaluate the efficacy and efficiency of the emergency warning broadcast capabilities of mobile operators and cell broadcast systems. The National Disaster Management Authority and the government are collaborating to improve preparedness for catastrophes including earthquakes, tsunamis, and flash floods. Similar test notifications were sent to Indian phone users on July 20 and August 17. Emergency Alert Notification Flashes on People's Mobile Phones, 'Test Message' Triggers Panic Among Citizens.

How many of you get this alert?....A beep beep sound along with this msg!
Is it really an initiative taken by GOI for emergency alert or something else?
