An elephant died in West Bengal's Jhargram district after being attacked by villagers with spiked rods and fireballs, a banned practice, on Thursday. The incident, shared by conservationist Prerna Singh Bindra on Saturday, involved a herd of six elephants, including two calves, that entered Raj College Colony. The elephants caused damage and one killed an elderly resident, prompting a "Hulla" team to drive them away. The Supreme Court banned the use of such methods in 2018, but the practice continues. One female elephant was severely injured with a fire-tipped rod, damaging her spine. Despite efforts by the Forest Department to treat her, the elephant succumbed to her injuries after an eight-hour delay. Another tusker, tranquilized and unable to stand, was reportedly pushed back into the forest using a bulldozer. There has been no official statement from the Forest Department. Assam: Male Elephant Dies After Being Hit by Silchar-Bound Kanchanjunga Express at Tegheria in Morigaon District; Disturbing Video Surfaces.
