The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) on August 7 busted a Mephedrone (MD), drugs manufacturing factory in Bhiwandi in Thane district of Maharashtra. The ATS seized 10.969kg of semi-liquid and 793.23kg of liquid MD worth around INR 800 Crore during the bust. After the ATS were tipped, it arrested two persons from Mumbai's Dongri area- Mohammed Yunus alias Eijaz (41) and his brother Mohammed Adil Shaikh (34). The arrested men were allegedly running an MD manufacturing and distribution operation from their Nadi Naka flat in Bhiwandi. Their names cropped up during the investigation of a similar drug case in Surat, Gujarat on July, 18. In a video posted online on August 8, the drug manufacturing set up is seen being raided. Mephedrone, also known as 4-methylmethcathinone, is a synthetic drug often touted as a legal alternative to amphetamine or cocaine. The ATS seized 793 kg of liquid MD worth about Rs800 crore from the flat. ATS officials said that they arrested two persons identified as Md Yunus alias Eijaz, 41, and Md Adil Shaikh, 34, both residents of Dongri in Mumbai.
