The Delhi High Court sharply criticised the Delhi government's "freebie culture" following the recent basement flooding in Rajindra Nagar, which resulted in the deaths of three civil services aspirants on July 27. The court has summoned the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) commissioner, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), and investigating officer to appear in court on Friday. A division bench of Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela expressed concern over the government's financial priorities, stating that the focus on freebies has left insufficient funds for essential infrastructure upgrades, particularly the city's drainage system. The court pointed out the disparity between the city's planned capacity of 6-7 lakh people and its current population of 3.3 crore, questioning how the authorities intend to manage without significant infrastructure improvements. "Your civic authorities are bankrupt. If you don't have money to pay salaries, how will you upgrade infra? You want 'freebie culture.' You're not collecting any money, so you're not spending any money," stated Acting Chief Justice Manmohan. The court demanded a reassessment of the government's approach to managing the city's growing population and infrastructure needs. What Are Laws Proposed by Delhi Government To Regulate Coaching Centres After 3 IAS Aspirants’ Deaths?
