Cyclone Remal is the first cyclone of the pre-monsoon season in the Bay of Bengal. It was named by Oman according to the naming system for cyclones in the North Indian Ocean region. Cyclone Remal is expected to make landfall between Sagar Island in West Bengal and Bangladesh's Khepupara on Sunday at midnight. The cyclone is forecasted to cross the West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh coasts with a wind speed of 110 to 120 kmph, gusting to 135 kmph. It is currently located 435 km south-southeast of Kolkata, India, and has tracked northward at 11 km/h over the past 6 hours. Remal is expected to steadily consolidate and intensify as it moves into a narrow zone of low wind shear in the northern portion of the Bay of Bengal.
