The new regulations, known as the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Amendment Rules, 2024, introduce a zero-fee policy for the first 20km of travel on national highways. Vehicles equipped with a functional Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) On-Board Unit will benefit from this provision, with fees applicable only for distances beyond this initial threshold. Furthermore, a dedicated lane for GNSS-equipped vehicles will be introduced, with a doubled fee imposed on those without proper equipment using these lanes. The updated rules aim to streamline toll collection and encourage the adoption of GNSS technology.
