Former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee passed away on August 8 at the age of 80 following a prolonged illness. Bhattacharjee, a prominent figure in the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI) (M), served as Chief Minister of West Bengal from 2000 to 2011. Bhattacharya resigned from the CPI's Politburo and Central Committee in 2015 and left the party's state secretariat in 2018. He was last seen in public at the Left's rally at Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, where he made a surprise appearance with oxygen support.
