Former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and BJP leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has alleged that the Congress party orchestrated the wrestlers' protests at Jantar Mantar after wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia joined the Congress. Singh said, "On January 18, 2023, when the protest began at Jantar Mantar, I had said that this is not a movement of sportspersons; Congress is behind it, especially Bhupinder Hooda, Deepender Hooda, Priyanka, and Rahul. Today, this has been proven true. In this entire movement, the conspiracy against us was led by Congress, with Bhupinder Hooda at the forefront." He further accused the Congress leaders and the protesting wrestlers of using the movement for political gains rather than for the respect of women. "Due to them, the daughters of Haryana are facing embarrassment. We are not responsible for it; Bhupinder Hooda, Deepender Hooda, and these protesters are responsible. They used daughters for politics and defamed them. They were not fighting for the honour of daughters; they were fighting for politics," Singh added.
