The Bombay High Court recently slammed the Mumbai Police and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for failing to resolve the ongoing issue of illegal hawkers across the city. The division bench of Justices Mahesh Sonak and Kamal Khata came down heavily on the Mumbai Police and the BMC as the two sought time to submit their "action taken reports". According to a report in Live Law, the judges of the top court lost their cool after one of the shopkeepers said that the hawkers "encroached" upon the entrance of his shop even after being evicted earlier. The bench observed while hearing a suo motu public interest litigation (PIL) pertaining to the menace of illegal hawkers in Mumbai.
