A disturbing incident has come to light from Madhya Pradesh, where a married woman who was allegedly tortured and beaten by her in-laws was rescued by the police in Bhopal. Acting on the victim's father's complaint, police raided the woman's place and rescued her. Shilpa Kaurav, SHO of Mahila Police Station, said that the woman got married in 2006. "Since then, her in-laws in Bhopal used to beat her, torture her and also keep her hungry for many days for dowry...After 2008, they (in-laws) snatched the mobile phone from his daughter and since then the contact has been lost," she added. The SHO also said that the victim has two children who were not found at the home during the rescue. The alleged incident came to light when one of the distant relatives had gone to the victim's in-laws' house. The complaint claimed that a distant relative visited the third floor and saw the condition of the woman. SHO Kaurav also said that the victim is undergoing treatment at the hospital, and they record her statement soon. "We have registered a case of domestic violence and dowry," she added.
