The BBMP has sealed GT Mall in Bengaluru for non-payment of property taxes following a dispute involving an elderly farmer. According to Section 156 of the BBMP Act 2020 and a circular dated December 6, 2023, the mall owes INR 1,78,23,560 crore for the year 2023-24 and INR 1,78,23,460 crore for the current year. The closure comes after the mall denied entry to a farmer wearing a dhoti on July 16. An FIR has been filed under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Section 126 (2) for wrongful restraint and obstruction against the mall owner and security guard who denied entry to the elderly man.
